Introduction
At Renaissance our Early Years Programme follows the English Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework which provides an integrated, play based programme for students. This framework provides teachers with a set of common principles and is specifically designed to provide equal opportunities for Early Years students to develop essential skills, to flourish as individuals and to achieve success in a student centred environment.
At the heart of the EYFS is the core belief that all students are unique and have individual learning pathways. Wherever possible instruction is differentiated to suit the needs of the students and there is strong focus on learning by doing. Technology is introduced in the Early Years and is aligned to the school’s comprehensive technology scope and sequence.

Strengths
The curriculum is broken down into three prime and four specific areas which are outlined below.
- PRIME CURRICULUM AREAS: Communication & Language, Physical Development, Personal-Social-Emotional Development.
- SPECIFIC CURRICULUM AREAS: Mathematics, Literacy, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design.
Our Early Years teachers are highly qualified and have a wealth of experience both internationally and in their home countries. Class sizes are small and our teachers are supported by specialist teachers for music, Physical Education, swimming and library as well by a team of skilled Assistant Teachers.
ASSESSMENT
Given the play based nature of the Early Years Programme, there is a significant emphasis on formative assessment which is based on observations of student performance across the range of developmental areas. These observations are recorded in Tapestry and shared with parents and thus become part of the student’s record of progress.
In summary we are exceptionally proud of our Early Years programme where the students enjoy the challenges and rewards provided from specific teaching strategies, active engagement, experiential learning and the development of key 21st century skills.
