Students use technology as tools for learning, and learn 21st Century Learning skills such as collaborating, problem-solving and being innovative. 

Visits to the MakerSpace provide them with a creative approach to technology.

Besides academics, students’ well-being is always at the forefront. Teachers integrate the Character in Education values and global competencies into their daily classroom life. Students learn the necessary skills that allow them to be successful global citizens respecting and honouring diversity.

Students at CIS have many opportunities to participate in physical activities to develop a healthy and active lifestyle. The Health and Physical Education curriculum addresses physical fitness, including swimming and movement and teaches students about their personal well being. Students participate in our House system in which students participate in healthy competition and learn the dynamics of teamwork.

The  Grades 1- 3 Program (Primary Division) places an emphasis on literacy and uses a cross-curricular approach to make learning meaningful. The English Language learner’s strengths and needs are considered and differentiated lessons are created to meet individual needs.

All students receive Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, The Arts, Health and Physical Education, and one other language: Vietnamese or French. All Vietnamese students are required to study Vietnamese and all others receive French instruction.

The Grades  4- 6 Program (Junior Division) continues the same subjects as Grades 1-3 and scaffolds students from more concrete to abstract learning and thinking. Students learn to become more independent and critical and use higher-order thinking skills to continue to build their confidence as learners. They are responsible for their choices and make decisions that affect their own learning. Students learn how to self assess and set goals to become independent learners.

In Grades 7 and 8 Program (Intermediate Division) students have the same subject structure as Grades 4-6  but they perform more challenging tasks with more rigorous academic demands. Teachers support their social and emotional growth by promoting well-being and healthy living. Students in these grades face an important transition period in which they synthesize and build on what they learned in the formative years. Students use more critical thinking and problem-solving skills to prepare for the secondary curriculum. Teachers help students to become more motivated and to encourage them to reflect on how they learn best to become more independent learners.
